Authentic Maori Bone Pendant Rei Niho Whero
Local Maori carver, David Taylor, has created this beautiful bone pendant for you.
Called "Rei Niho Whero", meaning "red bone eye tooth", the bone pendant is carved with multiple barbs on the outer edges and a kowhaiwhai ( Maori rafter) pattern down the centre. Based on an ancient whale tooth design, the chevroned edges and double spiral design invoke the intergenerational passing of knowledge and whakapapa. Red is said to be a chiefly colour.
A stunning piece of carving, carved from cow bone, dyed red, and finished with a yellow muka (flax) adjustable cord.
The bone pendant measures approximately 80mm x 45mm (3 1/4" x 1 7/8").
