This lovely New Zealand Christmas Ornament depicts New Zealand's Kokako bird.
The Kokako (Callaeas cinerea) is a native forest bird of New Zealand. The bird is endangered, its population decimated by introduced predators. Its diet consists of everything from fruit and seeds to leaves and insects. Its beautiful clear song can be heard over a long distance. Nesting pairs can be heard singing duets in the early morning.
The Kokako is a poor flier, and prefers to leap and run. Government recovery plans are attempting to save the Kokako from extinction.
This pretty Kokako ornament is decorated all over with beads and sequins. Simply gorgeous. A future New Zealand heirloom. It measures approximately 4 1/2" x 2 1/2" (11.5cm x 6.5cm).
