This fabulous Scrimshaw Ngutu Kaka Tattoo Pendant is made and tattooed right here in New Zealand.
The Ngutu Kaka design traditionally depicts the female element. This Kowhai Ngutu Kaka design by master carver Jeff Bryan celebrates the wisdom, eloquence and strength of women. The hand-carved oval bone pendant is scrimshawed with the Maori Ngutu Kaka tattoo design.
Kowhai Ngutu Kaka is the Maori name for New Zealand's native kaka (parrot) beak shrub. The design can also been seen carved into Kowhaiwhai patterned beams, and woven into pare ( female kapa haka bodice).
All the pendants in this Maori Tattoo range are hand carved in New Zealand, and the scrimshaw designs have been created by a New Zealand tattoo artist, based on traditional Ta Moko tattooing.
This tattoo pendant is 1 3/8" (3.5cm) long and comes to you on a traditional adjustable waxed cord with paua shell toggle, and on a descriptive card, so you can always remember its spiritual meaning.
