This fabulous Scrimshaw Puhoro Tattoo Pendant is made and tattooed right here in New Zealand.

The Puhoro design depicts the wake of a canoe, gliding at speed across the water.  As with all Maori designs, it carries a spiritual meaning.  The Puhoro represents swiftness, strength, and courage of character.

The hand-carved rectangular bone pendant is scrimshawed with the Maori Puhoro tattoo design.

Puhoro is also a type of tattoo pattern.  It is based on tattooing the background to make it dark, and leaving the unpigmented skin as the design.  Traditionally the Puhoro design appeared on the thighs or buttocks.

All the pendants in this Maori Tattoo range are hand carved in New Zealand, and the scrimshaw designs have been created by a New Zealand tattoo artist, based on traditional Ta Moko tattooing.

This tattoo pendant is 1 3/8" (3.5cm) long and comes to you on a traditional adjustable waxed cord with paua shell toggle, and on a descriptive card, so you can always remember its spiritual meaning.
