Carved Maori Tekoteko Statue
Beautifully carved from a hard native timber called Matai, this New Zealand Maori "Tekoteko" tiki figure is a wonderful collectors item.
The tekoteko is a carved human Tiki figure found on the gable apex structure of a Maori meeting house ( as seen below at Waitangi).
As used in the Maori meeting houses, the eyes of the statue are made from New Zealand paua (abalone) shell. The statue stands 8 3/8" tall, is carved on 3 sides, and has a hole on the back so you can hang it if desired ( it is otherwise freestanding). It comes with a card detailing its origins.
