DVD: Chasing China's Chariots of Fire
...Chasing the Truth
The Last Steam Trains in the Universe
TVNZ, 57mins approx, PAL Region 0 ( PAL systems worldwide)

John Agnew is a crazy New Zealander who has been hunting down the last steam trains in the world.  We join John as he tracks down the last Chariots of Fire on the final frontier - China, and the remote icy wastes of inner Mongolia.

John had heard about the last labyrinth of steam railways but the Chinese authorities denied their existence and even refused him permission to use his camera.  After many adventures he became the first Westerner to photograph parts of this unknown lost world.

You get to visit places where time has stood still and where steam is a modern power.  In remote Mongolia you will be overwhelmed by the spectacle and majesty of the massive QJ locomotives hauling their enormous loads over the 1000km Jitong Line, where for a decade, steam has been making its last mighty stand.

And you will come away with an understanding of the force that drives John Agnew's passion, with an affection and a sense of sad loss for these magnificent locomotives, now on the brink of oblivion.  The last steam trains in the universe.

Bonus Clip: Lineside views featuring the Jitong Line in Mongolia, offering unique scenes of the mighty QJ Engines making steam's last stand.  This bonus clip showcases some of John's most dramatic action shots.
