This beautiful new carving by Maori artist David Taylor is called Ipu Wahine Moko. If you are into Maori tattooing, you'll recognise this design as a Maori woman's chin tattoo, her moko. (For more on Moko, check out the Moko book by Michael King).
This style of tattoo is worn by a woman ( wahine) of some rank or standing in society, a woman knowledgeable about family links (whakapapa).
This beautiful pendant measures approximately 80mm x 35mm (3 1/8" x 1 3/8") and comes to you on a waxed nylon cord, for lasting safety. I recommend you look after this pendant with great care, since David's pendants are works of wearable art.
Purchase it while you can, as David usually prefers to make only one-off pieces.
Here's our customer, Dee, wearing her Ipu Wahine Moko. Doesn't she look gorgeous?
