David Taylor Exquisite Bone Koru Pendant (DT13) -
Current Browse Location: Home : All Items : Bone Pendants by local Maori > Local Maori carver, David Taylor, turns bone into exquisite pieces of Maori art. This bone Koru pendant is a fine example. Partially stained with tea, the Koru is 1 3/4" (45mm) in diameter, and rests on a traditional waxed flax cord. What makes this a standout piece is the tiny tea-stained Koru within the Koru. All Maori designs come with a spiritual meaning. In the case of the Koru, which is inspired by the unfurling native fern frond, the design represents peace, tranquility, personal growth, positive change and awakening. It is also a symbol of new life and harmony. What a beautiful message behind a beautiful work of art. Please note: it is normal to see colour variations in the bone, as well as striations and imperfections, as you will see in the photo below ( of the back of the pendant). That is nature. The carver strives to make the front surface as smooth and clean as possible, but leaves the back more representative of the bone's natural state, to remind the wearer that they are adorned by a piece of nature. Over time the bone will absorb the oils from your skin, and Maori believe this is a natural process in the bonding of the person with their adornment.
