This bone pendant by local Maori carver, David Taylor, is called Te Ao Marama.  It means a new dawn, a new beginning, and is synonymous with the Maori Koru design depicted in this carving. 

The Koru design represents new beginnings, peace, and tranquility.

So this is a special piece that is ideal for a new family, a friend beginning a new stage in their life, for a person who has received enlightenment.

The Te Ao Marama pendant measures approximately 1 5/8" (4.3cm) in diameter, and rests on a handmade harakeke (flax) cord with adjustable paua (NZ abalone) toggle closure.
