Dennis Hobson is a talented Northland woodturner with the ability to turn native swamp kauri stumps into works of art.
Dennis makes these beautiful, functional Kauri bowls inlaid with pieces of New Zealand Paua Shell (abalone) and the Maori Hook design. The bowl measures approximately 260-280 x 50mm ( 10 1/4 - 11" x 2") and is made from ancient Kauri stumps, thousands of years old (living native Kauri trees are protected).
The Maori Hook design, carved from bone, carries a spiritual meaning too. The Hook, or Hei Matau, signifies abundance, strength and determination. It is believed to bring peace, prosperity, good health and good luck.
Isn't the bowl beautiful? You can't keep your hands off these kauri bowls - they seem to invite you to touch them and admire the smoothness of the finish and the innate beauty in the grain of the wood.
When you've got Kauri in the house, you have an instant talking point, an heirloom piece, a wonderful example of the beauty of nature in both timber and shell.
Excellent 5th Anniversary Gift - the traditional 5th Anniversary Gift is Wood.
