Dennis Hobson is a talented Northland woodturner with the ability to turn native swamp kauri stumps into works of art.
Dennis makes these beautiful, functional Kauri bowls inlaid with pieces of New Zealand Paua Shell (abalone). The bowls measure approximately 260-280 x 50mm ( 10 1/4 - 11" x 2") and are made from ancient Kauri stumps, thousands of years old (living native Kauri trees are protected).
Aren't they beautiful? You can't keep your hands off these kauri bowls - they seem to invite you to touch them and admire the smoothness of the finish and the innate beauty in the grain of the wood.
When you've got Kauri in the house, you have an instant talking point, an heirloom piece, a wonderful example of the beauty of nature in both timber and shell.
