In this Douglas Ferris print, a beautiful maori maiden exhibits how Maori women looked in days of old.  She is featured wearing a korowai cloak with dyed black tassels as decoration.  In her hair are the tail feathers of the highly prized huia bird.  (Unfortunately this bird is now extinct).  Her moko serves the ultimate statement in dual purposes; it not only indicated her status in life, it also depicted the beautiful curvilinear artform of the maori.
