Standing tall and proud our Puhi were a depiction of mana-wahine (womanly prowess) and Polynesian beauty at its best.  Puhi was a title, which was reserved for only the select few, according to lineage, such as a high chief's daughter.  This drawing exhibits all that is beautiful in maoridom – tattoo on her chin, huia feathers in her hair, mako shark earring, highly prized kakahu keruru ( pigeon feather cloak).
