Coasters with Al Brown
DVD 158 mins approx, PAL Region 0 (worldwide)

Coasters is a new series from the award-winning producer of "Hunger for the Wild".

New Zealand's coastline has been rated one of the top three in the world, and it is easy to see why.  There is something very special about the strip of land separating terra firma from the open ocean.  Dynamic, dramatic, wild and beautiful, New Zealand's long and varied coastline has a huge influence on our lifestyle and culture.

Coasters is a 7 x half hour TV One series that follows keen fisher, seafood chef and presenter, Al Brown, as he travels the coastline of New Zealand exploring the connection Kiwis have with the coast.

There's plenty of fishing, fossicking, cooking and chatting to locals - people whose lives revolve around the tides, currents, wind and weather - who are strongly connected to their coast and share their love of it.

From the mountainous coasts of Fiordland to the sandy bays of Northland, the incredible diversity ensures a wonderful variety to the episodes that collectively paint a picture of a very integral, influential and essential part of contemporary New Zealand.

Episode 1: Island Bay to Pencarrow Head.  Al travels the capital coast, making his way from Red Rocks on Wellington's south coast, into the city harbour, then out to windswept Pencarrow Head.

Episode 2: Westport to Charleston.  Al crosses the formidable Westport Bar on an inshore trawler, before making his way to an old gold stamper in Charleston.

Episode 3: Cape Brett to Russell.  In the Bay of Islands, Al follows Cape Brett's tribal walkways, drops in on a classic campground, then hauls sail to Russell for the Tall Ships Race and a feast for hungry sailors.

Episode 4: Doubtful Sound.  Al heads to remote Doubtful Sound where he catches a cray or two, searches for bottlenose dolphins, and visits Fiordland crested penguins on his journey from the Tasman Sea to Deep Cove.

Episode 5: Hotwater Beach to Ferry Landing.  Al's in the beautiful Coromandel where he digs for hot water, kayaks to Cathedral Cove, fossicks for a few cockles, and discovers why Captain Cook visited Mercury Bay.

Episode 6: Birdlings Flat to Le Bons Bay.  On the southern coast of Banks Peninsula, Al finds ancient food at Birdlings Flat, meets a colourful coaster in Akaroa, walks stunning farm tracks, and takes a boat to Le Bon Bay.

Episode 7: Tongaporutu to New Plymouth.  Al sets off from Tongaporutu along Taranaki's energy coast to gather mussels at Whitecliffs, flounder at the Mimi River, check out the waves at Fitzroy, and visit the wind wand in downtown New Plymouth.
