This simple but beautiful bone necklace carved by a South Island Maori carver, depicts two overlaid Whale tails. 

Whale were very important to Maori, both as a food and bone source, and as a spiritual entity.  Whales feature in many Maori myths and legends, and are often depicted in wood and bone carving.  Spiritually they represent great strength.
