Genuine Maori Heavily Carved Bone Hook Pendant |

This heavily carved Maori Bone Hook Pendant is one of my favourite pieces from this South Island carver's collection. The carving is further enhanced with a piece of New Zealand Paua Shell, and the exquisite binding near the top of the hook. The carved patterns on the bone pendant are reminiscent of Maori wood carving and tattoo designs. This bone fish hook is a very masculine piece and is quite large as well, making it really stand out. The larger pieces are very popular in New Zealand. This bone hook pendant measures approximately 3 3/4" (95mm) long. It is carved on one side only, and comes to you on a hand-plaited adjustable cord. Maori designs carry a spiritual meaning as well. The Hook ( hei matau) design signifies good health, prosperity, and safe travel over water. The Korus carved into the hook signify peace and tranquility. Proudly carved in New Zealand.
