Instant! Maori ( Speak Maori in seconds!) is a fun and worthwhile book to own. The introduction explains how to pronounce Maori words, basically by giving you English words that sound the same as the Maori word. So for instance, the Maori greeting Kia ora is pronounced "key-ora" in this book.
What's really fun about the book are the phrases they give you to learn. The phrases are grouped by the location they might come up e.g. in the section "In the Snooker room" you learn how to say "Want a game?" in Maori, and in the Romance section you learn how to say "What's your phone number?" or even "let's go to bed".
There are the Maori words for different foods, the time, fruits and vegetables, numbers, months and colours, and if you need to ask who has just passed wind, it's in here!
Instant Maori is fun, simple, and effective.
