Ideal for Kapa Haka groups, Nation Days, and to celebrate Waitangi Day, and for adult dress-ups.
The Maori Womens Kapa Haka Costume is an adjustable garment. It consists of a printed bodice and attached black skirt, piupiu over top of the skirt, and headband. The bodice/skirt is fastened at the back with strips of velcro. This allows you to adjust the garment to fit perfectly. The piupiu has fastens with velcro.
The total effect is stunning.
The sizes are coded 2XL, A10, A12, and A14. Don't get hung up about the names of the sizes, they are just what the supplier has called them. Under each code we've given you the corresponding dress size for various regions, the corresponding bust and waist size, as well as the actual garment measurements.
"Additional Ease" refers to the overlap at the back, where one side of the back garment velcros over the other side. This Additional Ease allows you to increase the size of the garment by the amount of Additional Ease, but still allowing a short strip of velcro closure. For example, the A10 size garment is made for a bust size of 36-38", but with the Additional Ease, that can increase by up to 3".

The costume design was derived from the costume worn by the Otatara Cultural Club of Taradale, New Zealand. The design depicts New Zealand national bird, the Kiwi, which is surrounded by the Niho-Taniwha pattern ( dragons teeth) and the Three Baskets of Knowledge. This design was the work of three people, namely Ellen Coulter, Ngaupoko Batt, and Baden Batt. Only Baden is still alive, and he gives his unreserved consent to the costume and the Maori motifs used on them.
Note to schools: As these costumes are always in high demand, we cannot afford to have any out on approval. If you would like a sample, please order and pay for the costume(s) you require. Should you decide they are not what you require, we are very happy to receive the costume back (in original condition) for a full refund of the purchase price (excluding shipping). Many schools pay by credit card so the transaction is easy to do, and a refund is easy too. Having said that, to date we haven't had a school decide against the costume once they see it. :-)
