Kiwi Speak by Justin Brown Random House, 2008, 176pp, soft cover In Kiwi Speak, Justin Brown eavesdrops at the dinner table, the farm, the sports club and in the playground to round up more hard-case New Zealand expressions than you can shake a stick at. He also reminds us of some very popular television advertisement sayings, like "relax! you're soaking in it!". So if you're a scarfie who can handle the jandal, a bogan who loves a Waitakere Dakiri, or a cockie who thinks he's a bit of a dag, you'll probably understand this book well. And if you don't have a clue what any of those sayings mean, you'd better buy the book to find out! Examples: "Got any chuddy?" means "have you got any bubblegum?" "You're taking me on a tiki tour" as spoken to a taxi driver who is trying to make more money from his fare. "He's a kumara short of a hangi" is equivalent to "he's a sandwich short of a picnic" or "his elevator doesn't go all the way to the top".
