This fabulous long Maori Toki Pendant is carved from New Zealand Kawakawa Greenstone (Pounamu).
Adding to the beauty of the stone is the fabulous lashing at the top of the pendant, resulting in a stunning piece of jewellery.
"Toki" is the Maori name for an adze. Greenstone was used by Maori to make functional adzes in pre-European times. The carved piece of greenstone, slightly harder than steel, would be lashed to a carved wooden handle.
This toki is approximately 4 1/8" (10.7cm) long and rests on a traditional black adjustable cord. It was carved by a group of greenstone carvers based in Hokitika, on the west coast of the South Island of New Zealand, where greenstone is found.
It is a one-off piece - so don't delay making your purchase!
