This beautifully carved Maori Bone Pendant is of the mythical Maori Manaia.

The Manaia has a bird-like head, symbolising flight of the spirit.  Its three fingers are believed to represent birth, life and death, symbolising the life cycle of man, or alternatively, the Three Baskets of Knowledge (the knowledge mankind needed from the gods, to be able to live successfully on earth). 

Note the three fingers on this Manaia, the bird-like head, and the fish tail, the fish tail representing the Manaia's protection over the sea.

This Maori Bone Manaia Pendant is designed and made by a New Zealand Maori carver of Ngai Tahu descent.

The Manaia necklace measures approximately 6.5cm (2 1/2") long and comes to you on a traditional black adjustable cord.
