Maori Bone Small Manaia Pendant
This carved Maori bone pendant is in the form of a supernatural being, the Manaia ( pronounced Ma-nigh-uh). The Manaia is a spiritual guardian, to ward off danger and protect against intruders. It acts as a provider and protector over the sky, earth and sea.
Manaias usually have bird-like figures. Others may have bird heads and human bodies.
This particular Manaia is beautifully carved, with Paua ( abalone) shell for its eye and its body intricately carved. The back of the pendant also carries a Paua eye, but has no carving.

The Manaia pendant is approximately 1 3/8" long, and comes to you on a traditional black waxed adjustable cord. It also comes to you on a descriptive card, so you can always remember its spiritual meaning.
