Many civilisations have used the gourd, and that includes the New Zealand Maoris. 
This lovely Carved Gourd Charm shows the gourd as used by the Maoris - beautifully carved on one side and hollowed out on the other, to use as a ladle. The Sterling Silver Maori Gourd Charm measures 6/8" long.
