These beautiful large Flax Kete Baskets are made by a lovely Maori lady in Auckland, New Zealand.
This size of bag is a good size for ladies like me who carry EVERYTHING with them - purse, cellphone, pens, hanky, cardigan, wetwipes...you name it!
You won't find anything like these bags throughout the rest of the world, particularly now that dyes are being used to create an extra-special look.
Kete baskets have been made by Maori women for a very long time, and were originally used for the collection of vegetables, kaimoana ( seafood) and other items. Nowadays, kete baskets and backpacks are common, both as a beautiful and a useful bag.
Being handmade, the size of these kete will vary a bit. On average they are approximately 8" (20cm) tall and 11" (28cm) long. They are woven so they have a flat bottom. Which is lovely when you are using it as a handbag - you can put it down on the table or floor, and it doesn't fall over and spill its contents!
Choose from the gorgeous colours on offer, and do let us know if you would like a kete bag custom-made.
