Maori Matai Maripi - Carved Ceremonial Knife
The Maori Maripi is essentially a cutting tool, although it was also used as a club.
The edge of the Maripi originally had sharks teeth attached to use for cutting flesh, although this beautiful example uses the more easily obtainable ( but no less authentic looking) plastic instead.
This Maripi is made from the native timber Matai, a hardwood with a beautiful grain and rich, deep color. New Zealand Paua shell decorates the maripi, as does beautiful carving.
It measures approximately 12 1/4" long, and comes with a card detailing its origins.
