New Zealand Merino Possum fur 10-ply Yarn is the ultimate knitting yarn to make up into sweaters, pullovers, hats, scarves and gloves, or whatever takes your fancy.
Made from 50% Merino wool, 40% Possum fur, and 10% Nylon, the mix takes all the best qualities of the individual fibers to create a yarn which is strong, lightweight, ultra-soft, lightly fluffy, anti-pill, breathable, and warmer than pure wool! The secret is in the hollow possum fur fiber, which traps and conducts heat better than wool.
And by purchasing a Merino possum fur product you are helping New Zealand control the population of the Australian brushtail possum, introduced into New Zealand over 100 years ago and wreaking havoc in our native forests, killing our native trees and kiwis at an alarming rate. Possum fur is considered an eco-fur, since it is ecologically sound to remove possums from our forests and at the same time assist in the cost of trapping.
You'll love the feel of your finished Merino Possum garment, and the words of admiration from friends and family when you show it off. No-one will be able to believe how soft and warm it is!
NB: Although the ball sleeve says 8-ply, the yarn is actually closer to a 10-ply. Recommended knitting tension is 18 stitches, 26 rows per 10 sq cm/4 sq inches. Needle size 4-5mm needles, US size 6-8 Each ball ( skein) measures 100 metres (109 yds), or 50grams (1.8 ounces). Care instructions: handwash in lukewarm water with a wool detergent. Rinse very well in cold water, gentle spin dry ( or squeeze excess water out between two towels). Dry flat in a warm spot, preferably on a mesh rack, away from direct heat. Important: Wash before first wear, to help lock the fur into the wool, preventing shedding and enhancing the appearance. Please order enough wool to complete your project, as the yarn is batch dyed.
You are ordering by the ball, to make it easy for you to get just enough yarn for your garment.
