This fabulous Merino Possum Silver Fern Hat is beautifully soft and warm. And a great souvenir of New Zealand.
The Silver Fern is New Zealand's sporting symbol, and one of New Zealand's most popular images. It's a quick identifier that a person is a Kiwi, or a supporter of New Zealand.
The Silver Fern Possum Merino Beanie is double thickness. It's a blend of 60% Fine Merino Wool and 40% Possum Fur. This blend is warmer than wool. Fine Merino Wool isn't scratchy, it's soft and warm. Possum Fur, from the Australian Brush-tailed Possum ( a pest in New Zealand), is a smooth, hollow fibre that traps heat inside it. Together they make a fabulous combination of heat retention, warmth and softness.
The Australian Brush Tail Possum was introduced into New Zealand in the 1880s. Unfortunately, what hadn't been reckoned on was the higher breeding rate of the possum in New Zealand's cooler climate. The possums quickly got loose, invaded our native forests, and they now devour tonnes of native forest every night, as well as raid native bird nests. To save the native Kiwi we have to eradicate the introduced Possum. Luckily, Possum Fur is a great product, both for its leather and its fur.
So thank you for helping to Save the Kiwi!
Combine the Possum Merino Silver Fern Beanie with the matching gloves and scarf. They look fabulous together! And they will keep you nice and warm through any winter.
