This gorgeous Flower Jade Pendant, made from New Zealand's indigenous nephrite jade, is a wonderful piece that I fell in love with. Be quick, or I might keep it for myself!
The pounamu ( Maori name for Greenstone, or Nephrite Jade) pendant has a Maori Koru carved into it. The Koru design carries a spiritual message. It signifies personal growth, new beginning, peace and tranquility. So it is a wonderful piece to buy for yourself or give to others.
Flower Jade, also called Marsden Stone, is found in parts of Westland, on the west coast of the South Island of New Zealand. It gets its yellow to brown colourations from natural oxidation of the outside of jade boulders. These markings make the carving even more interesting, particularly when the carver has picked just the right slice of flower jade to make his piece out of.
This Flower Jade Koru Pendant has been carved by one of a group of carvers living in Hokitika, near where the stone is extracted. The Koru design is carved into both sides. The pendant measures approximately 2 1/8" (5cm) long and comes to you on a black cord with greenstone toggle closure. The cord is approximately 25" (63cm) long and can be shortened.
