The Morepork is actually the Southern Boobook, but we prefer to call him "Morepork" because of the sound he makes at night.  The Morepork is an owl, and is mostly nocturnal.  He is widespread throughout New Zealand, feeding on large insects like grasshoppers, spiders, and wetas, as well as small birds and mice.
