Patu - Maori Hand Club
The Patu was a Maori hand club made primarily from greenstone or greystone. When in battle, the Patu was generally used with a thrusting motion, attacking the upper body. Alternately, the butt ( reke) would be used to deal a death blow to the head of a wounded warrior.
This Patu weapon is approximately 15 1/2" long, which is true to size for the old patu. It is made from the native timber Matai, a hardwood. The intricate scroll pattern, similar to that seen on artefacts, is repeated on both sides.
Sorry, a stand is no longer available.
