The Bank of New Zealand Kiwi Recovery Trust's mission is to "enable kiwi, New Zealand's national icon, to once again flourish in its natural habitat for generations to come".

Kiwi are an icon and an oddity.  Within the Kiwi Family there are two species of Kiwi - the Brown Kiwi and the Spotted Kiwi. Within these two species are six varieties of Kiwi: the North Island Brown, the Okarito Brown, the Stewart Island Brown, the Haast Brown, the Great Spotted, and the Little Spotted.  The "Little Spotted" is the smallest living member of the Ratite family, a group of flightless birds that include Rheas, Ostrich, Emu, and the extinct New Zealand Moa.

Kiwi are having a hard time in New Zealand, as it has several introduced predators - possums, stoats, rats, dogs and cats.  We need to do all we can to ensure the survival of our national icon.
