The pendants are handcarved, and no animal has been harmed in order for the carving to be produced.
The matching pendants have whale tail tops, and a Maori Koru within. The Maori Koru design carries a wonderful spiritual message. The Koru design is inspired by the uncurling fern frond. It represents peace, tranquility, personal growth, positive change and awakening, new life, and harmony. Maori also have a close affinity and respect for whales.
Imagine giving these to a newly engaged or married couple, or to a parent with twins. Imagine keeping one for yourself and giving the other to a loved one, a friend, a colleague. The possibilities are limited only by your imagination.
New Zealand has a large deer farming industry. Unlike horns, deer antlers are shed each year and new ones grow each Spring. These antlers grow from a "bud", and take 4 months to reach full size. When the antlers are harvested the remaining portion is called a "button" or "coronet", and that is shed naturally leaving the bud to produce a new, larger set of antlers for the next breeding season.
These buttons are collected and it is within this button that a carving is created.
Each button is unique, with the pendants measuring approximately 1 3/8" long. Each pendant is on a traditional black cord, and the set of pendants makes a nice presentation piece in its special black box. Inside the box is a note explaining the pendants' origins.
