This Cook Island Pate ( Slit Drum) Pendant/ Charm is very dear to my heart, simply because of the wonderful sound that comes from the original wooden drums.

In the Cook Islands and Samoa, and probably other Pacific islands, this type of wooden slit drum is called a pate.  You will be able to see in the photo of the charm, the markings similar to the carved marks that would be made when the pate is hewn from an island tree.
