Welcome to the world of the WotWots, a brand new pre-school children’s property. This beautiful and energetic new show has been created by Richard Taylor and Martin Baynton, the creators of the award winning series Jane and the Dragon.
The WotWots are two fluffy adventurers who have landed in a local zoo ( the show is filmed at Wellington and Auckland Zoo) and want to learn all they can about the animals who live there. Each episode has them heading out to explore the zoo and learning about an animal they encounter.The two WotWots are twins, brother and sister. They are soft, puppet-like characters who scoot around the zoo on steam powered hover chairs. They are inquisitive and energetic and they embrace their adventures with great joy and enthusiasm. They have big hearts, take great care of each other, and are not afraid to show the affection they have as brother and sister.
They discover all kinds of things in these eight adventures. They find out that some animals are good at hiding and that not all creatures have spots like them. They even discover that some creatures don't have soft fur at all - they have prickly spikes instead!
The show has been created at Pukeko Pictures by Martin Baynton and Richard Taylor and produced at Weta Workshop. This is their second TV project and follows the success of their ground breaking animation series – Jane and the Dragon.
Weta Workshop has an international reputation as one of the film industry’s most successful special effects studios. It has won numerous Academy Awards for its work on large scale movies including King Kong, The Lord of the Rings and The Chronicles of Narnia.
Through their escapades, the WotWots encourage children to be creative, inventive and expressive as they share their discoveries with their preschooler audience.
The TV2 ( New Zealand) show is energetic, colourful and entertaining, with all adventures built on one central ingredient which defines the series - the joy of learning and discovery. In each episode the WotWots help children to celebrate and understand the diversity of the animal world. They recognise kindness and co-operation as core values, delight in learning new words and enjoy exploring their creativity through drawing.
Richard Taylor is the owner, co-founding director and the creative lead at Weta. He has received five Oscars, four Baftas and numerous other awards for this film work, and he demands and receives the same excellence from his creative team for their work in children’s television.
Martin Baynton has written and illustrated more than thirty books for children. His publishers include Penguin, Walker Books, Scholastic, Greenwillow and reed Methuen. His Jane and the Dragon book series was first published in 1986 and has never been out of print.
