Tuatara Christmas Decoration
This lovely beaded Christmas Decoration features New Zealand's living dinosaur, the Tuatara.
The Tuatara is a reptile, the only survivor of a group of reptiles that were around at the same time as the dinosaurs. Because they breed slowly and are endangered, tuataras are now only found on New Zealand's off-shore islands, where they are predator free.
If the earth continues to warm from climate change, tuatara could potentially die out. The sex of a hatched tuatara depends on the temperature of the soil around the eggs. At 18 degrees Celsius, the hatched tuatara will be female. At just a few degrees more, the hatched tuatara will be male.
