Jeff Evans collected the information about these weapons from written accounts, many of which were recorded in the early years of contact between Maori and European, since the Maori did not have a written language.

The information is enhanced with the addition of wonderful old photos and sketches of Maori weaponry, making this a valuable resource book for anyone interested in ancient weaponry and the Maori culture.
