Hi everyone! Listen to a piece of Maori music, and read the story of why it is here.....
I love Maori music, always have, right from when I was a little girl. I'm a Pakeha ( a "white" New Zealander), but I went to school in a neighborhood that was almost all Maori, and Maori culture was very much a part of my school. I learned the pois, still remember all the songs, and I can probably still do the stick games! I sing with an informal choir here in Ngunguru, and one of our favorite songs to sing is called E Hara. E Hara is a song about a spiritual belief that everything is handed down to us, from our ancestors, through the passage of time. Including love, land, faith and hope. The choir has graciously allowed me to record us all singing E Hara for you, so that I may show people all around the world, in my own small way, just how beautiful Maori songs are. Click here to listen to eHara .(wav file).
